Re: Let me introduce you to Chance.

Brian, Thanks for the info. Great site, even though I can't get anyone to respond to my posts. Lots of info there anyway.

How is your flying squirrel doing? I could never get my flash drive to work.

But anyway here are a couple links. Even had a gray squirrel that I had rehab and released him eventually. He stopped coming around after awhile.

Sorry for the delay in responding, been really busy. Chance is doing awsome. His eyes opened 9/29 and refuses to slow down. We gave him a small mouse cat toy and he is completely infatuated with it, rolling around with it. We're still feeding him esbilac goats milk and he is also nibbling on shelled pecans and bird seed. He gets so excited when he sees us first thing in the morning and when we get home from work. Thankyou for asking about him. Will get some new pics up soon.

Thats awesome man! I've always wanted a pet squirrel for some reason, probably because they seem so playful.

    Twist,

From what I understand, southern flying squirrels make the best pets of all the squirrels. Grey squirrels tend to get very aggressive.

Thats good glad he is doing well for you. LMAO they dont know how to slow down..... zoom zoom everywhere. Yeah they are pretty social animals.... eventually you will need to get some company for it. I know my amelia gets lonely at times but even though i spend alot of time with her. Its just not the same as having one of your own speicies. Ive been trying to find one local but its impossible. So I finally broke down and buying another one from a breeder.
Im hoping to have that taken care around Jan/Feb.

Do you have alot of oak trees around your house? You can also feed them acorns.... I did that last year gathered up enough to last a year. Washed them let them dry and put them in the freezer. I had two huge bags of peacans and acorns.

So has he started wanting to glide yet?

No, he hasn't started wanting to glide yet. He is still jumping around and he loves to pounce on his toy mouse. At what age do they normally ween off of the formula? Anyway, as I said here's a new pic of him. Tell me what you think.

Thanks for all the advice BrianD.

Looks good. I'd say about another 2-3 weeks you cant cut the milk out all together. Over this time start getting it to eat solid along with the milk. Veggies...tomatoes,lettuce,carrots,grapes,pecans,acorns,sunflower,unshelled peanuts. They're even carnivorous but limit the amount of meat due to fat content, mealworms.

They are chewers and honestly I dont see nothing wrong with a couple chicken bones for it to chew on. Extra calcium.

I took some pics of mine will post it in a thread. Still disappointed my flashdrive took a crapper on me. I had a picture in there where I caught here mid air gliding.

Re: Let me introduce you to Chance.

We've been offering shelled pecans and bits of apple. Tonight for his evening meal he only took 1 ml of formula, refused the second. Until now he has been taking 2 ml per feeding. When we put him back in his enclosure he immediately started eating a piece of pecan instead of his formula. We will continue offering formula until he absolutely refuses it. We'll keep offering after that until we are sure he won't take it. Again, thankyou so much for helping out with learning experiences.
