Average Prices for Male Argentine Boa (Occidentalis)

    Hey everyone!

I just got my first Ball Python a couple of days ago but my husband is looking for an Argentine Boa. We found a baby male ("baby" meaning a month and a half or 2 old) for $150. Is this a good/usual price? We're not 100% sure what morph it was but it's one of the darker ones for sure not albino or salmon or anything like that.

Also, if anyone owns/has owned one; did their hissing and other defensive behaviors go on past their juvenile stage or does it just depend (like on handling and overall temperament, etc)?

Any information at all really on these gorgeous snakes would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

From my understanding, Argentine boas have a reputation of being ill tempered. If you do decide to get one, be sure to handle it a lot to get it used to you. If it is not a morph, $150 seems like a lot for a normal boa, especially for a male. I sell my Central American and Colombian normals for around $25 for males.

Yeah I mean I could be wrong about the morph but none was specified on the parents' tanks (and both the parents have the same colorization). When I was looking around online to compare prices though a lot of the websites selling them were from '04 - '06 so I figured I should ask thanks

And yeah when we asked to see one of the babies he started hissing as soon as my friend picked him up but after a minute or so of him holding the boa it calmed down and started exploring.

That's a good sign. Many baby boas do hiss right before they are handled. Some will strike too. Usually they calm down once out of the cage though. Some take longer than others to get used to being handled, and some localities are more likely to be more aggressive than others.

Yeah I'm hoping that's the case with this one. We might end up having to just buy that one (or one at that store) because my husband was doing tons of looking around last night and a lot of places that are within driving distance of us either are out of stock or don't have any at all. (I say within driving distance because we don't want to deal with shipping costs unless we have to xP)
