So I rescued my kitten "evan" off the side of the road a few months ago and have since nursed him back to health. However he is only 4 months and already on his third URI. I had to bring him in yesterday for his felv booster and his rabies shot. Well ended up just getting more amoxi, some triple ortho eye ointment with dexdormator in it, and some more panacur for worms, no vaccines. After talking with the dr (who happens to be my coworker as I work at the animal hospital) he told me that he's pretty certain he has feline herpes and contracted it when he was just a baby. So this means he will continue to be getting URIs and need more and more antibiotics for the rest of his life. Its pretty saddening as it can sometime be fatal, but as for now we are going day by day. He acts fine and plays like a kitten does, he just gets sick all the time. I got him when he was abour a month old and I have already spent $300+ for vet bills. This is part of the reason my ball breeding project is on hold as I will be having to buy antibiotics every few weeks. I'm hoping since the doctor knows that is the reason that he will just let me buy some amoxi when I need it so I don't have to bring him in and spend $30 as the visit fee. Just thought I would share and possibly get some input from others who have had this issue.
Thanks,
Kevin.
