    Nursing moms seem tired

So Ive got my preggo/nursing rats in pairs of two's

Usually one mom will take over the babies or they will split them up

But what I'm noticing is that the one that nurses more is just real worn out looking.

    I understand that completely

I was just curious if anything can be given to these moms during this time to help them out?

Any kinds of food or treats......?

If the moms are getting a rat block created for breeding/growing rats and are still tired you can give them a bit of yogurt, bene-bac (can be bought at petco) or scrambled eggs. The eggs and yogurt are easiest and will give them an extra boost.

If you are noticing a mother who is dominantly nursing it could be she is aggressive or that the other female isn't motherly by nature. For their next litters separate the two and see what happens. I had two females who both gave birth in the same hour, one nursed them and the other was passive. The mother that did not nurse was separated and her next died from starvation. Motherly instincts are genetic and it will be passed down.

    Hope this helps!
