Provent a Mite Question

I am going to treat my tubs with provent a mite. I see where it will kill mites and their eggs in the tub, How do you kill the ones on the snakes if you can't spray the snakes with the pam?

Soak them with a little bit of mild hand soap or dish soap.

I think there are other products you can use to treat the snake, but dish soap/hand soap is cheaper and works.

Reptile Relieve from RBI is safe stuff you can use on your reptile... I use it for wiping every new Snake I bring from show and treating enclosure with snake inside...

I had small problem with mites on my last show purchase and that stuff worked well for me...

Ooooh I hate Reptile Relief with a passion. Can't stand the way it smells, but I'm glad I know what it smells like, because I can sniff out the critters sprayed down with it at the shows! LOL

I've never done anything more than treat the enclosure, then when it's completely dry, adding the animal to the enclosure. Except once....

A few years ago, I picked up three animals from a local guy off of Craigslist and THOSE snakes were infested enough that I DID take them outside and do a Reptile Relief treatment on them while their QT enclosures were drying.

I try to keep P.A.M. on hand at all times, and infact, treat a travel tub that I take with me when I go out of town to shows (a Sterilite tub and water dish that I set on a human heat pad set on low with no auto off function in the motel room).

Any time I bring in new animals, whether I can see mites or not, it goes into a PAM treated enclosure, and my existing colony get their tubs treated, even though the new critters are in QT. I don't want to take any chances that some wayward mite gets on me and travels to the main collection.

Treating the tub only works just fine, unless you have an extreme infestation, where you think the animal needs immediate relief. THEN I'll break down and use the Reptile Relief.

Knock wood - I haven't had to deal with mites in quite some time now. I'd like to think it's because of all my precautions.

Hmmm, now you've got me thinking about how I can "protect" my animals when they are in display cases. I'm thinking pre-treating whatever substrate I might use in the display cases......

Robin believe me I smelled way worse things in my life than Reptile Relief.
