Would this be a safe hide?

ok, im gonna confess... i wanna make a skull hide for my BP... (no hate please , I have a weir fascination for skulls, and no im not satanic...lol)

sooooooooo after looking and looking and looking for decent skulls to hollow out and make snake proof, I came across this, which is a aquarium decor piece, already hollowed out... I plan to take a dremel and sand out any rough edges/surfaces to make it safe for a BP....

    pics:

what do you think? (i could put in some carton inside of it to make it tighter for the snake)

No not really, while it looks cool, it's too large for a hatchling to feel secure in, maybe a juvenile may like it for a time, the openings will be too small, once your snake gets some size to it.

This one has closed off eyes and nose, so you could hollow it out and customize it better.

    And its a little cheaper.

I have already looked into it, and it looks way cooler, but it's resin (or something like that) and it would be a PITA to hollow out correctly.

To Ilovelace, what about putting some stuff inside (carton, foam, something) to fill some gap while it' a baby, and then remove it once it gets a lil bigger. Dont really mind not using anymore after he/she gets bigger (I could sanitize it and use it in the fish tank)?

    Again, thanks for the input

Could you just use normal hides and then have the skull as a decorative piece anyway, you never know the snake might use the skull by his´or hers own choice. With this option you can make sure your snake feels secure and still have the skull in your set up.

Re: Would this be a safe hide?

while having the skull as a decorative piece is a great idea, you'd really wanna fill it up with dry foam (like the kind found at craft stores) to keep the snake from exploring it & risking getting itself stuck in one of the holes.
dry foam is also used by florists to make silk flower arrangements.

    Hi,

My main worry is how would you get the snake out of it if you had to?
