When you have snakes shipped to you...

Do you take a day off work to be home to receive them? Does FedEx do overnight with Sat delivery? I see quite a few of you have had reptiles shipped to you and was just wondering as its not the *easiest* thing for me or the hubs to get a day off.

    Thanks all!

I took the day off to receive my packages. As for the Saturday delivery, most breeders have a "live arrival" guarantee, so they will only ship Mon-Wed, that way, if there is a delay, the snake won't be sitting on a loading dock or in a truck all weekend.

always will take off or ill have someone in the same hobby i trust wait at my house for the package and will buy them lunch or what ever for doing so. And never rely on fedex to knock on your door to hand you the package. I had a fed ex guy leave a snake on my stoop in the cold last year. Luckily I was constantly looking out the window for him or I woulda found a frozen bp.

Re: When you have snakes shipped to you...

if i cant be home to receive the snakes then i have them shipped to either my parents house or a friends house that can deal with them. i tell them to just open the box for air exchange and to keep the box inside.
or if possible i just try to have me or my wife be home to accept them.
i NEVER have them shipped thursday or friday.
    i prefer monday or tuesday.

All of the above.. Or have the seller set up the shipment to be held at your nearest FedEx location if it's open until well after you get off work. That way the box will be sitting, undisturbed, inside the building and you just pick it up.

I've done this for customers before who could not be at home early in the afternoon.

How does the seller set that up? There's a FedEx location right down the road from me.

I work for FedEx. Yes we deliver on Saturdays, although Saturday deliver is usually quite a bit more money at least $20+. If it it is shipped Priority Overnight(which I believe almost all breeders do.) Monday-Thur then we guarantee it to most places by 10:30 am some as late as 12:30 depending on how far out in the country it is. If it is shipped for Sat delivery then its by guaranteed by 12:30.

You can have it held at a FedEx location for you to pick up. In most big cities you should be able to find a few FedEx Office locations that are open 24hours (The one I work at is).

If the package is not required for signature, and depending on the driver they could just leave it at the door. Some my do a quick little knock/ring doorbell and drop the package at the door, some may wait a few seconds, and some wont knock. It all depends on the driver and how many packages they have to deliver. Most of the time they have a few hundred they have to have delivered by a certain time. Most are on a very tight time frame in the mornings.
