Thinking about getting a blood
Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I have been keeping balls for a few years and have fallen in love the the bloods. I guess I would like to know what kind of temperments they have and is one species better for a novice than another.
Also, who would you recommend for breeders. I have heard that they can be a little tempermental.
thanks,
Steph

Welcome to the forum
Bloods are quite rewarding snakes to have in a collection, excellent snakes at that. Bloods can definitely be moody. Although with regular handling they can calm down quite a bit.
Since you've been keeping Balls for a few years, I'm sure this is an awesome next step to take. Their care isn't very difficult as they like a lower temp for their hot spot, but do require a higher humidity level of around 65%-70%.\
Keith McPeek @ The Bloodline is a reputable Blood breeder, as well as VPI.

I've got a female brongersmai, and boy is she one of the favorites in my collection.
My limited experience (as I only have one) with temperament is that they are pretty typical as most python species go. When I first got her, she was feisty and came at my face any I got close. Fast forward 6 months later after she'd done some growing and I'd put in a lot of effort to have positive handling sessions using a snake hook, she's calmed down perfectly. She's every bit as calm to handle now as you could ask for.
I got mine from Rich Crowley @ richcrowleyreptiles.com

I personally prefer the Borneo (Breitensteini). They are just a tad smaller then Brongersmai. Mr. Tim Mead has some very nice, calm and healthy Borneo’s.

I agree 100% with Kevin N Kara....
CBB & Great people plus a super THICK snake or two is the way to go!

All the above mentioned are good, along with Kara (who needs to get the bloodpythons.com site back up *hint hint). I just bought from Kevin and am waiting very very patiently for slightly cooler weather for shipping. I'm trying to be patient, anyway! You'll want to buy CBB, and with these guys much more than ball pythons, you'll want to pay attention to bloodlines and how the parents look. There's a lot more natural variation in color, and as hatchlings you can't always tell what colors they'll end up with as adults - especially the red bloods.

Thanks everyone!!
It will CBB, that's for sure!
Besides the Bloodpython.com website that isn't up anymore, is there another site that is good for general blood info. Like the different species and what nots.
Chris,
Your snakes are out of this world!!
