I messed up - fed prey WAY too large

I have an adult male bp that i have been trying to bring his weight up. I had one extra jumbo rat that was terrorizing my rat rack so I fed him up. Well i came back and well he got him down but HOLY CRUD he looks like a stuffed tick. I've been leaving him alone. Well i went to change the substrate today and a brownish liquid came from his mouth. I guess it is just extra fluid from such a stupidly large meal.

He is active and looks good other wise...

Has anyone else seen this?

How long ago did you feed that rat to him? the prey item will swell a little the first day into digestion after that you should be fine. just keep them warm and with fresh water and you should be ok.

i did the same thing once when mine was between rat pups and small rats. the "small" rat was more like a medium and took him forever to get down. but like i said you should be ok.

The brown stuff is their version of vomit. It usually comes up before, with, or after a regurge. You might get lucky and he keeps it down fine. I'd bump up the ambient heat to aid digestion faster. You don't want it rotting faster than he can digest it. That could cause other problems.

It's been 3 or 4 days now...after the first bulge it has definately gone down..

I don't like the idea of that dark fluid coming out of his mouth to be honest.

Snakes stomach acid is remarkably corrosive.

I'd keep a very close eye on him and definately zero handling or distractions.

And triple if not quintuple check your temps are spot on. Now is not the time for you to miss a temp drop.

yes i bumped the temp a few degrees the minute i realized what i had done...dark fluid might not have been a good characterization. It would be more accurately described as murky looking water...

well a couple more days and he is going to fine - just really need to leave him alone but he is digesting fast...
