    !!! Tank setup !!!

i have a small ball python in a 75 gallon tank...i have it crammed up pretty good with fake plants, 2 identical hides on each end, a hide made from rocks in the middle, and a humidity hide towards the cool end, and some deer antlers and driftwood...i have been told that this big of a tank will stress the snake out but she has been eating very good and seems happy...heres are some pics of my setup http://s1089.photobucket.com/albums/.../tank%20setup/

    Re: !!! Tank setup !!!

A 75 Gal tank is a bit much..a 20 gal long would suit your BP much better. Your's is quite cluttered though. If you plan on keeping this setup, get rid of the heat lamp and get yourself an appropriately sized under the tank heat pad and a good thermostat. The heat lamp will suck the humidity right out of the tank. You also may want to enclose three sides of the tank with construction paper or some other dark material that will give the snake more security in such a big enclosure. Good luck!

    Re: !!! Tank setup !!!

I've got a couple big females that would look huge in a 75 gal aquarium, but would thrive in it with gusto. Ball pythons like tight spots. These females are in 41 quart tubs(33' x !7') and doing fine. If your BP is a baby or juvinile, the 75 gallon is on the big side for it. On the other hand, if temps and humidity are monitored closely you should be fine.

Checked out the pics. It is an attractive set up.
I've used flat black spray paint to paint the out side of the back and side panels of aquariums in the past.
    Looks good!

If she's acting normal and eating normal, then she can't be that effected by the large tank. Typically, they will stress out with such a large enclosure, but if she's doing fine then why worry. My only suggestion would be to get some black Con-Tact paper (maybe two rolls for that huge tank ) from Home Depot for $6 and black out the entire sides and back. It will make it seem smaller from the inside. Nice looking enclosure, the clutter probably helps it seem smaller. If it works and you don't see any signs of stress then why change? There's no harm in a large tank unless the husbandry is incorrect or they go off feed really.

    Re: !!! Tank setup !!!

Nice setup. I've never had any harm with pimping out my tank when its on the large side; usually my snakes are just fine coiled up in their hides and don't have a reaction to all the fancy things. Be sure there's not too much clutter to prevent your BP from stretching out comfortably (but with a tank that huge it shouldn't be an issue!)

Either it's my eyesight or my laptop screen, but what substrate are you using exactly? I can't seem to tell.

i am using cyprus mulch and the only reason i got this tank was because i got the tank and stand for $40...no cracks, and has home built nice double screen lid on hinges.
