Feed during shed?

Hello,

I went to take my bp out of his enclosure 2 days ago when I noticed his eyes were blue. I left him in his enclosure and upped the humidity once I noticed and have not bothered him since.

At this point, I'm a few days past his regular feeding. Do most people feed during a shed or wait till they've finished the process? I was thinking I might be able to feed him once his eyes clear up even if he hasn't shed yet.

I offer food when they're in shed, whether or not they eat during shed depends on them though. Some will, some won't. If you want to offer, there's no harm in that, and if you don't it isn't a big deal either, because the snake will only be in shed for a little over a week max. Up to you!

I agree. Some will eat in blue and some won't. You just have to offer prey and see what your snake is willing to do. You can always wait until they shed, then feed. Then just wait another week or so to put them back on their regular schedule.

I agree with both posts above. It depends on the snake, but you might as well still offer. My female will eat no matter what stage of shedding she is in. My male, on the other hand, wants to rip my head off then hide if I simply open his tub during shed.

I find that most will not eat. If you feed live keep a close eye on the situation. I learned this the hard way 20+ years ago. When I was about 10 I threw a rat in the tank and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and the rat had eaten several chunks out of the snake. I sure hope that people know better today but this was before the internet and many of us kids with snakes learned a lot of stuff the hard way. The snake lived and I had her for a little over 13 years. Knowing what I know now it's a wonder that the poor snake lived 13 months with all the things I did wrong. The only normal in my collection today is one of her daughters.

Some bp's might eat but most won't. I find snakes with a stronger feeding responce like carpets or pits will eat more during a shed but bp's won't as much so I never try feeding during a shed. It won't harm them so don't worry about it.

So far my children have not trefused a meal when in blue. I suppose it just depends on their attitude at the time.
