    Young Boa Housing Question

I am still debating whether or not I want a red tail boa. I found some nice custom enclosures that are good at maintaining heat and humidity. Which enclosure should I choose for a juvenile red tail? The small enclosure measures 24 inches in length, 20 inches deep, and 13 1/2 inches tall. The medium enclosure measures 36 inches in length, 20 inches deep, and 13 1/2 inches tall. Do you guys think keeping a young boa in the medium enclosure would cause it to stress out?

    Re: Young Boa Housing Question

I'd go for the 36 x 20 x 13.5 (unless it's a very young boa), because it will more than likely outgrow the smaller one quicker, and boas tend to handle extra space a lot better than a ball python and not stress out. My boa has a cage only slightly smaller than yours ( 24 x 24x 12) and she's about 2 feet long, doing just fine, no stress or nothing.

I think boas do a little better in the "bigger" enclosures than ball pythons, so the medium might be okay. I keep mine in a 34 qt tub right now (not sure of the dimensions) and he has two hides in it. He is ALWAYS in his hides...but I've heard most boas don't even use them. Anyways, I think if you wanted to go with the medium it would be okay, however I'd not spend a ton of money on a custom smaller enclosure since when he/she gets full grown you will need a much larger one, preferably with a lock lol. If you have the extra money than go for it, but I don't which is why mine gets a tub lol. I have time to save up for my 4' enclosure

Mine has 2 hides as well, but the only times I see her using them is when she's going into shed. Two opposite sides of the spectrum!

I keep my boa in a cb-70 right now....She has plenty of room and is doing great in it..... My girl uses her hides for a while then hangs out on top of them for a while..... I am already putting cash away for a nice 6 foot enclosure for her.....
