welding gas for feeder euthanize?
Hi guys, New member here. I recently started a bit of a feeder project. I've been looking everywhere for CO2, and all the big gas houses want me to lease a tank, which is sort of ridiculous as one fill will probably be good for life. Can't seem to find a tank cheap locally (or in Canada at all for that matter).
So - I've got a big tank of mig mix for my welder. It's 75% argon and 25% CO2. You think this would work ok, or is the CO2 concentration probably too low? I'd like them to have CO2 based passout and die, as opposed to possibly suffocating? on the argon and being in pain. Googling shows that straight argon is ok on birds, but couldn't seem to find much info on rodents, or on the mix.
Guess it can't hurt to try it and see how much the rodent seems to object to it. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this before, before I bother...
thanks guys

Re: welding gas for feeder euthanize?
Hi,
I have zero experience on the mix question sorry.
But I think most people get their gas and tanks from places that supply the paintball crowd?

I've tried it, they seemed to suffocate without passing out.

hmmm were you using 75/25? There are other mixes with more argon. Just curious.
I think I'm going to swing by the pepsi place tomorrow. My uncle says he got a tank there years ago, you just have to pay a deposit. that would be a lot better than leasing, hopefully you dont need an account with them or so...

Yeah, 75/25. Hardly any place sells plain CO2 for welding any more. I ended up having to work out a deal with the shop I work in to get a tank through them.

Yeah, a paintball place would be the place to look. They use CO2

I've used a jar and mixed vinegar and baking soda in a pinch...

Where in Canada do you live? Your local wal-mart sell CO2 where their paintball guns are... it's really not that hard to find
