Built my new 41 qt rack

I follow the design of some others on here but I only put 1 1x6 in the middle on the back side that is against the wall so I could view the snakes from the outside better. It's 4 tubs high because my plan for now is to stick with no more than 4 big breeder females and then just upgrade them to double gene animals as I produce them. Only 2 of my girls need them right now so the bottom 2 shelves will just be storage for now.

Let me know what yall think!

One crucial piece of information is to make sure to drill guide holes before drilling the screws in. When using wood as thin as melamine, the screws will typically split if there is no guide holes.

Another thing I learned, if you are getting your melamine cut at home depot, make sure to tell the guy cutting it your sizes with taking into account the width of the saw blade. My guy was stubborn and didnt listen so so I had to shave 1/8 of an inch off at home.

Nice job. And Home Depot sucks anyway... take that business to Lowes!

Nice! Thanks for the info regarding having the cuts made at HD\Lowes. I'll keep that in mind when I finally decide to make one of these for my larger girls.

Thanks for the compliments! I really like working in the garage and building stuff so making racks is actually pretty fun to me.

I would have made all the cuts myself but fitting an 8 foot by 4 ft piece of melamine was just a bit impossible for my little Lexus sedan haha. Plus they did it for free so might as well. Most of the time the blade will be about 1/8 of an inch, but just make them measure each new piece after each cut and you will be fine. He just marked every line on the board and went to town and thats what throws it off.

Lowes (in my area at least) has 16 x 36 inch melamine shelves. These work great for the 41 quart tubs. So no cutting needed. Just slap on some edge tape and add some legs. BAM! Instant rack. With 48" legs you can have 7 tubs. I still need to add my last one.
