Bengals are cool. I love Savannahs, but they're illegal in GA, and Bengals are only legal here if it's an F3 or greater. My wife and I share the love (and mischief) of an Abysinian. He's like a monkey in a cat's body. He's total clown, he enjoys making us laugh.

Amen I would add - the cat that you keep in your house and don't allow to terrorize the neighborhood. So many in my neighborhood have "outdoor" cats that scratch the hood of my car and harass my wifes foo foo dogs...

Shelter cats. But if you want to go by breeds, the Turkish Angora or the Turkish Van, because they have this amazing luxurious coat, super sociable, active, and pretty easy on grooming because they don't shed all that much since they don't really have an undercoat. And a lot of them like the water too!

Re: What is the best cat

Sphynx kitties! Our little Frankenstein is by far the coolest cat I've ever met. From day one, he's just gone with the flow of our household. He is now the king of the dogs. And he actually going to start his therapy cat program this month. He's responded very well to clicker training and I'm very pleased with his progress so far. He does require a bath, at least once a month, and semi-regular ear-cleaning. I tend to do his nails and ears every two weeks or so. Here's some pics of my naked little man...

    Amen to both.
We had 2 cats (my wifes cats) but now we have none. Both passed away from old age. Take a Black Light at night sometime to your kitchen and see where your kitty has been after the litter box. Sorry, no more cats for both of us. We love them, but they are not staying in my house.

Re: What is the best cat

I want a cat so. BAD. ;o; I had one, but she isn't around any longer due to medical issues.

I've been regularly stalking bengal and savannah kitten websites. <3 I have my heart set on an f1 Savannah kitten.. but that will have to wait! lol I'm hoping to get a snow bengal in the next few years. (I hope, hope, hope sooner.)

My black kitty from the pound is a super cat. He doesn't shed much either.

My favorites are the mixed breeds (aka "domestic short/longhair"), but in terms of purebreds I'm a Siamese & Abyssinian fan... my family has owned many of those, and they're pretty cool kitties! Shedding is to be expected from ANY cat, with the exception of a few hairless or curly-haired breeds, but Siamese & Abys aren't too bad. And if you want a playful cat, these would definitely fit the bill. I'm also a huge fan of Persians & Himalayans, but you said "doesn't shed much," LOL.

Here's my Siamese mix Kona, in her younger days... she's almost 14 now.

And this is my mom's blue Abyssinian, Jasmine.

Oh, and if you want a NON-shedding cat, maybe consider a Cornish or Devon Rex. My relatives are really into those, and I admit they're nice cats... kinda weird looking, though.

My Aunt & Uncle's former Devons...

    My cat.

But in all seriousness get a short-haired cat. My cat was a rescue and is a medium to long haired cat...I had no idea what I was getting into.
