    Petco or Omaha reptile show

Hey guys, I was recently at Petco in Sioux falls SD and I saw some spider, pastel, and pinstripe morphs all at 150 each.
Now, I know for pastel that's maybe possibly a lot, but I'm thinking about either the spider or pinstripe which cost at least 200 because of shipping charges, females typically going for more.
I really want to get something started in breeding so I was thinking of getting a pin or spider male from them and then later a sub adult to adult size pastel female later this year and making something cool for a beginner, know what I mean?
The problem I'm having is that I noticed that there is a reptile show coming up in Omaha, could I have better possibilities (as far as Morphs) going to that instead?
I'm pretty excited/confused. Anyone have any ideas what I should do?

Re: Petco or Omaha reptile show

Go to the reptile show. Most of the people there should be breeders and will help you with questions. Most of the people at my local Petco are kids who know NOTHING about reptiles. There will probably be a lot of other morph's you can look at also.
Too many snakes to list. Ball pythons, Gtp's and Boa's. It easier to say it that way.

If I were you I would wait for the show. If I didn't wait I would feel like I was rushing into it. Don't cheat yourself just because the opportunity at Petco might pass you up. Odds are prices will be close to the same at the rep show and you'll have an opportunity to talk to breeders.

I second the suggestion to wait for the show! You get what you pay for.. purchase cheap, receive cheap. I'd prefer to purchase a snake from a breeder who knows what they're doing. I'm not going to go on and on about how Petco/PetSmart keeps their animals, ultimately because not ALL of them keep their animals in bad conditions. All I will say is, you are probably more likely to get a healthy, happy snake from a breeder than a big-chain pet store. Many stores have mites, for example, so why risk buying a snake that could cost you much more money in regards to health.

Hell Ya wait for the show. Petco is well petco. The shows are where you talk to the people that are actually producing these amazing animals. I know all of my babies, just like any breeder. You point one out
And I'll tell you everything there is to know about that baby. You can't get that with petco. Those people are working. It's their 9-5 they may not even like or respect the animal. People that truely breed for the right reasons do it bc they love it. They love it bc they love the animal. That is way more important to me than how much the price tag says. You get what you pay for.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the input. What's funny is my wife told me the same thing, and she's not into reptiles at all. Guess its just common sense. DAMN, what's that say about me. Oh well, I'm still learning.

    THANKS ALL

I wouldnt recommend petco for much. I cant speak for all of them but all the ones ive been to, the employees do not no what they are talking about and the animals are not very well taken care of. Ide go to a reptile expo to get one.

I agree with all of the answers listed above. Wait for the show and you will feel better about it...
