Axanthic Ball Pythons are Heterozygous or Het. You would breed..

Het Axanthic X Het Axanthic.
Visual Axanthic X Het Axanthic.
Visual Axanthic X Visual Axanthic.

Visual Axanthic X Het Axanthic.

They are formed by a lack of Xanthrophores, which are the cells that are responsible for Yellow Pibmentation. They lack yellow, which turns them into a black and silver snake.

There is a bit more chemistry at work, and the synthesis of colors in the skin cells is interupted in color genes, and therefore, some colors are still produced, and hence the reason that Axanthics do gain some reddish pigments as they age, creating the browning out effect that is commonly seen in all lines of Axanthics.

Just to add they are a base morph so you cannot "make" them only buy them.

So you would need to buy either hets or visuals if you wanted to work with them.

The Axanthic morph is what's called a Base morph. Meaning its a base mutation that was found in the wild and found to be genetic (transmissible to offspring)


The Axanthic morph is also a recessive morph (like Albinos).
If you breed a Axanthic to a Normal you will producing offspring who look normal but have a heterozygous(het) hidden gene.
So to make one you need to breed a visual Axanthic to a another visual (100% chance of producing visual Axanthics), a visual to a het(50% chance of producing visual Axanthics), or a het to a het(25% chance of producing visual Axanthics)

SO guys if you breed a Axanthic with a regular Pastel or Spider you get an Axanthic Pastel or Spider Right?

Hi,

Not quite - they are recessive.

So breeding a visual axanthic to a pastel would give you pastels and normals all 100% axanthic.

To get another visual axanthic both parents would have to be at least het for axanthic.

Yep you got it! I'm not sure where your located but have you checked fauanaclassifieds? Some ship international and I've seen them for the same price as albinos.
