Lightbulb Musings of a newish bp owner...

These are just a couple of my observations since becoming a bp owner:

    1) my female normal is the nicest snake ever. I doubt any snake could be sweeter than her. My pastel male is an as*hole.

    2) everyone who keeps bps should get an honorary degree in psychology. From tricking them with mouse bedding scented rats to turning out all the lights so they think they're in private to get them to eat, the lengths we go to are amazing. I tell my kid I'm not a short order cook and she can starve if she doesn't like what I'm making.

    3) people feel very strongly about snakes. According to my friends I should've died about 5 times over by now. I would probably get a smaller reaction from people if I told them I was an animal sacrificing satanist.

    4) it totally freaks non snake people out when they look in your sink to see defrosting rats or worse when they go to get ice from your freezer and see frozen rats. If you don't explain you WILL get weird looks and your guests will be hesitant to stay for dinner.

I'm sure I'll come up with more as time goes on. Feel free to add your own!!

I have a friend who likes to tell me that you could survive solely on pureed rats and still get all of your nutritional requirements met. Apparently this is the only "food" item you can do this with. As much as I love my snakes, I don't want to share their diet.

I guess we learn something new everyday. I'm totally going to spread the word to all my non-snake friends. Lol. They will get a kick out of this.

OP..... I love threads like this in the morning.

You're not kidding on #3...nearly everyone I know is convinced my snake will eat not only me but also my husband and all other pets.

I've been surprised by the amount of misinformation and flat-out wrong assumptions non-snake-people tend to have.

Also, is it just me, or are snake-loving women as a group hotter than the norm?

So true, so true. My mother has refused to come to my house since we got the snakes. She won't even come over for an out door grill out with the snakes locked in the house, locked inmy room, locked in their tanks.

Yeah...that kind of stuff baffles me, especially since my cat is exponentially more vicious than my snake has ever been, and everyone just looooooves her.

With me they quickly forget the snakes when they ask what do you feed them and I inform them of the 300 plus rats we keep on hand . After they shiver the next question is always where do you keep them?
