Need some help on temps,

Hello all, I need some answers.
I have a digital therm, for my bp. Should put the probe on the substrate? In his hide? put it under the substrate? also what temps should his hot side be? please gimme some help!
i have a ten gal for him, a uth for him two hides and a water dish.
Im all ears, if im doing something wrong please tell me! im so willing to learn on how to make him as comfy as can be.
Do i need to add a heat lamp for him?

If I were you, I'd invest in a temp gun! You can get them fairly cheap, they're very accurate, and you can read the temps in multiple areas of the enclosure rather than moving the probe around. It is wise to monitor the temps in more than one area of the enclosure.

The probe should be in between the uth and the bottom of tank! It needs to be on the outside of the tank so the snake can't move it off the uth and cause it to heat up and burn the snake. Your hot spot temp should be 89-94 but don't rely on the thermostat temp to be accurate. Check the temp of the hot spot with a temp gun or a digital thermometer with a probe. Sometimes you have to set the thermostat temp higher to get the right temp in the tank! Heat lamps are not recommended as they dry the tank out. You can use one if the ambient air temp is low but you will need to mist the tank several times a day!

Oh, I thought the OP meant digital thermometer probe. If they meant thermostat, my mistake, they're both "therms" lol

I meant thermometer, so i put the probe on the outside? and then put the thermostat probe there also? where the uth covers about 1/3 of his tank is it ok for the temps to be that hot?
Where would I find a reliable and affordable temp gun? ones thats also easy to use.
Also with my cresteds you let the cage dry out a little bit between mistings should i also do this with my bp? or try to make it a stable 50-60% humidity 100% of the time?
