Petsmart has got to be wrong...

I bought a normal bp from petsmart last november and was told he was 4 months old. I just weighed and measured him and he weighs 421g and is 30in long. This seems big for and 8 month old snake to me but I could be wrong. Could you tell me an aprox age from him with the weight of 421g and length of 30in? He(who could be a she) gets one small rat every 7 days.

    Thank you.

it all goes by how they been fed. My 2010 hatchlings are 10 months old over 650g now. Feeding and how often determines their size not age.

I'm sure that they're telling you the truth, nothing about that age or weight seems anything other than normal.

The short answer is no you can't tell age from size. First is he absolutely a male? here is my example I have a pair of snakes born the same time and they are now just over a year old one is 880gm and the other is 1690gm they have been fed on the same schedule and correctly sized meals they rarely refuse food and are kept under the same conditions yet one is almost twice the size of the other. I have a disadvantaged female that was born 2 months earlier and is only 400 gm and she never refused food she was born small and has stayed that way. I am 220 lbs and 6'4" how old am I? We are all different so are snakes no two are the same.

Umm well my normal male is 8 mo about 30-32 inches long about 720 grams! Depends on the snake, and feedings/health.
