Unhappy Hey i'm new, and I have a question.

    Hey,

I have a female ball python, Clarabelle, who is a few months old, and I've had her since late December. About a month ago I had some trouble with keeping her cage warm and she got a respiratory infection. So I took her to the vet and got her some antibiotics (Baytril 2.27%) to give to her orally. I was looking at some of the posts on here, that say that it is better to give antibiotics by injection rather than orally, however she seemed to do fine, and it much better now. i have been giving her three weeks of the oral antibiotics, and I just gave her the last dose this morning. However, no matter how many times I've tried to feed her, she won't eat. Is this normal? I figured she's still recovering. By the way I have solved the heat and humidity issue. it's fine now in her cage.

What signs should I look for to tell if she is hungry? (I will try and feed her everyday to see if she will eat.)

Re: Hey i'm new, and I have a question.

By giving her the oral meds. she is probably stressed out... Leave her alone as much as you can for a while, and keep trying to feed her once a week. As long as she isn't loosing weight she should be fine....

    BTW welcome to BP.net....

    Welcome to BP.Net.

I am very glad your snake is getting better.

It is probably going to take a little while before she's ready to eat again, oral medicine isn't pleasant for anyone, and it's even more stressful for your snake.

As hard as it is to wait, trying to feed her every day is most likely going to make the problem worse. Only try once a week. It may take a week or two, it may take a month. Just remember the feeding strike is much harder on you than it is on her.

Just a quick update. Clarabelle finally ate, last night, and she's much better.
