Kind of a weird shed?

So when I think shed, I think of one whole piece that they've shed off. Well today I went to go handle Buster for the first time, I've had him a week and a half now and thought this would be a good time to start getting him used to being handled. I fed him on Sunday and he ate like a champ and I haven't bothered him since to give him some time to digest. Well today when I lifted up his hide, it looked like several little pieces of shed next to him. If I would have known that he was going into shed I would have upped the humidity. It's at about 50%, I'm working on getting it up to about 60% now, I may put a damp washcloth on top of his hide. His eyes aren't "glazed" over, so I'm unsure if he's at the beginning or end of his shed. His color is dulled which I know is a sign of shed. I change his water everyday and the bowl is big enough to soak in, haven't seen him do that but he may do it at night while I'm not around. He's some pics that I got of him tonight.


The shed piece is towards the bottom there.


Also a little on his left side.

So I haven't handled him at all still, as he looked kinda angry and I think that may be because he is in shed. So my question is, should i just leave him alone and give him a few days and check on him again? How long are they usually in shed for?

Sometimes one of my BP's does this. It's almost like she doesn't quite know how to rub her shed off yet. She's about 250g so I'm hoping she learns soon lol. I usually soak her in warm water for about 25 minutes, then take a washcloth, make an "ok" symbol with your hand around the washcloth and let her slide through. A lot of times, the rest of the shed will come right off. Also make sure there is a rock or something in her enclosure that she can rub against. I usually take the humidity up to 70-75 while mine are in shed. It doesn't look like she has stuck eyecaps, but I bet there are other pieces hidden in the bedding. I think a good soak will help her out. Good luck!

So buster shed the skin on his head, all looks good, just waiting for him to shed the rest of his body. Should I attempt to feed today? Its been 6 weeks since he last ate

6 weeks??? I think there may be an underlying problem.....shed issues, not eating. Care to tell your setup?
And that shed looks stuck to me.

You can feed. Feeding when snakes have stuck sheds on the neck or head will actually help.


While opening mouth and swallowing, this stretches the skin causing the old skin to peel off easier for the snake to rub off, or you pull off.

I wouldn't feed him till the shed is off.

It looks like a stuck shed from what I can see.
If the head sheds and the rest doesn't within a couple of hours then you need to assist.

sterilite tub with lid
1 to 1 1/2 inches of 85 degree water and a towel in the bottom.
I also add a half log hide(the only thing they are good for) for the snake to rub against.
30 minute soak and with stuck sheds I usually have had to drain water and replenish with more 85 degree water for 30 more minutes of soaking.

The key is to get close to 100% humidity for them to get that shed off.
If it doesn't all come off then I help gently peel the rest.
If it doesn't 100% come off and the snake struggles I leave it be and concentrate on why it happened in the first place.

50% humidity is ok but not for shed period.
For future peace of mind keep track of when he shed, learn all the signs of a shed coming and make sure to have higher humidity next shed period

I always offer feed even when in shed, some will take and other wont. Its not a big deal either way.

it's easy to miss the subtle signs in the beginning of the shed cycle. check out the shed sticky, it's extremely useful in providing detailed info with pics on each part of the shed cycle.
