Thermostat location question

I want to know just where to place my thermostat probe ?
If I lay it on top of the aspen bedding I get "A" The lowest reading)
If I place it inside the hide, I get "B" ( a middle tempature reading)
If I place it under the bedding I get reading "C" (the highest reading)
The bedding feels warm to my touch and when I pick up my ball python her body feels warm to me.
She seems fine and healthy, so I am simply "fine tuning" here.
My wife says I worry too much (Yea, I guess so)..........

What kind of setup are you using?

SOUNDS like you need your probe right on the heat tape on the outside of the setup.

THEN adjust your thermostat up or down to give your animal a hot spot of no higher than 95. I aimed for 92-94 when I kept Balls.

It'll of course be cooler on top of the aspen, but your animal can burrow down to the heat should it decide to.

In my experience, putting probes inside enclosures yielded negative effects.

Outside the enclosure right on the heat tape.

If the probe is place in the enclosure it can be cool down leading to heat spike.

Snakes are notorious to spill their water dish and or to pee and both can lead to the above.

Get an Accurite thermometer from walmart. Make sure to get the one with the probe. It should be like 12 bucks or something close to that. Without doing so will result in inaccurate temps. I had to set my tstat a lot higher to achieve the right temp. I just hot glue (thanks to dr.del) the probe inside the tub, right over the heat tape. Therefore when your adjusting the tstat you will know EXACTLY what temperature your at without assuming. So tstat probe is on the outside, thermometer probe on the inside. Good luck!

Same setup as mine - works like a charm!
