Mazuri and Zeigler are both 16-6 and within a dollar of each other for a 50# bag (~$26). I get whatever I find in stock locally.

I feed Native Earth, the generic version of Harlan Teklad. It's $0.70 a pound off Amazon.com (40 pound bag, or 5 pack of 40 pound bags), easy and convenient. I will also give my pregnant or nursing girls and growing babies a small amount of tofu to give them just a little something extra while their nutritional requirements are higher.
If I only had a few pets I'd feed a homemade diet based on fresh produce, with some grains and limited animal product.
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

I feed Mazuri at the moment but have fed Native Earth and had great luck with that as well. My pregnant females get scrambled eggs and organic yogurt every so often and everyone gets kale greens once every two weeks or so along with fresh apples and pears, sans seeds. I don't give mine treats or anything special, really...just lab block and the occasional extras, depending on their dietary needs and if they're pregnant and/or nursing at the time.
My soft furs are a little higher maintenance, lol! They get fresh greens every night along with lab block, dry kitten food and seed mixtures with fresh apples and pears every so often. Kale and spinach are also offered once a week or so to keep them from developing tumors and thus far (knock on wood!) it's seemed to work really well as I haven't had any health issues with my colonies.

Been using Kents for awhile now for my rats, mice, and Asf's. Have not seen a drop in production since switching from mazuri and have been saving lots o cash.

What do you feed your rats?
I don't breed rats yet(I will soon) but I use Taste Of The Wild dog food on my feeders. I buy them, make sure they are healthy and are eating a nutritious diet, then feed them to my BP.
TOTW Wetlands formula is arguably the best dog food available. It is made with purified water, all USDA food items like Roasted Pheasant, Roasted Quail, Roasted Duck. It is then sanitized with steam using purified RO/DI water.
It also contains Chelated Nutrients which allow easier absorption into the body.
And no rice or grain fillers. The only other ingredients are vegetables.
It's all I feed my dogs and my feeders...

Re: What do you feed your rats?
Be careful with TOTW, they have had a couple of recalls in the past couple of years. If you are willing to spend a few extra bucks a much better food is Orjen. But isn't the protein percent in dog food considered too high for rodents?

Rats and mice are grainivores. They do need some of those filler ingredients. Too much meat protein makes them actually more cannibalistic.
TOTW is great for the dogs though. I do second Orijen. They're top notch.
