    Het question

Im looking into buying a female GG for my male but the only one aval. is a Het 66% green ghost. My first question is how is it a 66% het and not a hundred percent? will she prove out if I breed her to my male green ghost pastel in the future? a little confused would love to hear some input, thank you.

    Re: Het question

the 66% part means that there's a 66% possibility that she is in fact het. She may or may not prove out. This happens because when you breed a recessive, seemingly normal babies hatch, and some of them are hets, but you have no way of telling which ones are and which ones aren't, so given the probabilities of them being hets, you'll have 66% possible hets.
    1.0 Normal - Maynard
    1.0 POG - Victor
    0.1 YB - Diana

    0.1 Pastel Boa - Astrid
    1.0 Salmon Boa -

    1.1 Leopard Geckos

    Re: Het question

A 66% het comes from breeding 2 100% het green ghosts. Theoretically if you get 4 eggs, you should get 1 green ghost and 3 "normals". Out of the 3 normals, 2 should be hets. 2/3 = 66%. There's no guarantee the one you buy will be a het. Feeling lucky?

    Re: Het question

Here's the Punnett Square for 66% hets (this applies to other recessives as well):

Hey if she doesn't work out, at least you'll be left with pastel het green ghosts, and 100% het green ghosts. Is the green ghost line not compatible with other lines?

2/3 of that certain clutch of eggs were theoretically het. Meaning any one of those eggs has a 66% chance of holding that gene. Meaning, your snake has a 2 out of 3 chance of holding the gene and 1 out of 3 chance of not. 66%-33%, so the odds are in your favor but not guaranteed.

    Lostcoast,

I would just keep my eyes open for a green ghost female of at least a 100% het GG. If you invest 2 years into a 66% that dont prove out now you are farther away from your ultimate goal. Take your time and look around. I personally would not waste my time on 66% unless I was looking at an expensive recessive or adding to a group I already had. Just my opinion but then again I am impatient! Good luck

I only buy 100% hets from a reputable breeder that I know and trust! You don't want to waste all the time for normals! Be patient and wait for a 100% het! They are cheap enough to buy 100%! Good luck! This site explains hets very easy: http://www.ballpython.ca/what_get/recessive.html
