    Set up question

    Hey Guys,

I am thinking about switching over to tubs from my tank set up. Humidity is just super annoying to keep constant and everything I read says tubs are what to go with. I am looking at picking up another BP at the Pomona show so I will be doing this twice. Not sure what size my little girl is right now but lets just say she is 250 grams. Here are my questions.

    1. Is 12q going to last a while for her?

    2. Would 28q be way to big?

    3. I see most people use flexwatt but I currently have a Zoo med UTH thats I think the 10-20g size, would that work?

    4. Do tubs lose heat too fast if they are not put into a rack system? I am handy enough that I could build something myself I am sure.

    Thanks for the help!

    Re: Set up question

At her size I'd say 12qt would be just fine, but 28 would be a bit on the large side (not the end of the world though if she doesn't stress easy). You don't necessarily need flexwatt, a properly sized UTH should work just fine (with a thermostat/rheostat, of course ) and it should be fine outside of a rack, I don't see how it would make it more difficult to retain heat.

Look for a 16 qt. Before you toss the tank you can try searching plexi lid and the thread should come up.
If your going with another building a rack would be your easiest and best bet. Remember to build for an adult and work in the juvis.

    Re: Set up question

I have 3 hold backs between 200 and 350 grams each in 28qt tubs in my melamine rack and they LOVE the space.
After a hatchling takes off and hits over 100 grams they can do just fine in a 28qt tub IMO
I do provide them with hides until they hit 350 grams or so, or if they are picky eaters.

Tubs have next to no insulating value. If you are in a cool room you may find keeping the cool side correct an issue. You can either heat the room up or add supplement heating to raise the ambient temps up.
