    My boa bit me

Way to go April (that's me) stupid feeding error #2. I fed my boa a f/t rat.. she ate it fine.. so I went to replace her hide box after she was done. I went to move her to the other side, and she watched me with a hunter's eye.. did I leave her alone? Nah.. I got tagged. It's purple, but the alcohol I put on it after hurt a lot more than the bite itself.

    *rolls eyes*

hmm..I feed my ball in a cardboard box, and after he's done, I pick him up and move him to his tank. Am I also asking for trouble?

just be careful..don't move straight toward his/her head. put your hand down there going for the body..just be sure your hand is behind his head and he can't get you if he strikes...once he knows you have him, he probably won't strike...

Don't worry, I have no intentions of going straight for his head. That is probably the last place I wanna go. But I have a feeling that if I do ever get bit; it would be when trying to pick him back up. But I don't mind getting tagged. And hey, if he is willing to bite a big human, he'll bite into any rat I throw at him. And that is good news to me.

also it's a good idea to wash your hands thoroughly before you switch your snake back into his enclosure to ensure that you don't smell like prey. just be careful and watch to see if he is "watching you with a hunter's eye" or tracking your movement as you reach toward him and most likely things will go smoothly.

Thats a Hogg for you, they may be BCI's but they are a little more high strung than a standard BCI. Both of mine have attitudes shortly after being fed, its the only time I ever have to use a snake hook other than that they are sweet as can be.

Urgh.. yeah I need a snake hook! I washed my hands very well.. I did NOT smell like food (I learned that lesson from my last bite) ...and I didn't just go grab her face. I was actually being cautious. I went behind her head to grab her neck, but she spun around and grabbed me.

My hog that I got from Kara at NERD is a bit high strung at feeding time. I always feed him last and leave him alone to eat (he eats in his enclosure). Normally after striking and coiling, he then lets the rat go and looks around to make sure no one is watching. One time he saw me across the room and struck the plastic. She did tell me he had a Retic feeding response and its no lie. Outside of feeding time, he is as sweet as can be!
