Red face i wanna switch to racks, but how?

ok so title says it all..

    i wanna switch to racks,
but they are a little more than i have to spend at the moment,
and really would rather build them.

i wanted to find out if someone could tell me what kinda of materials i would use?

is there a specific kind of wood, and what does everyone use to heat them?
i know alot of people use flexwatt but i hear more people have problems with it.

    any help?

who has problem with flexwatt? stuffs great, doesn't get anymore basic than a sheet of heating elements. Any problem you have is eigher defect material or user error.

You can use anykind of wood as long as its sealed correctly. I use melamine because it comes with laminate already on it.

There is also a whole DIY section on the forms that will show you what different people have done and how they did it

Re: i wanna switch to racks, but how?

My recent builds have been using a premium pine plywood sanded fine and coated with sealant. For the flexwatt, I pinned down some SS flashing at the back of each shelf, and used aluminum tape to fasten the flexwatt to that.

Work perfectly, are easy to build, and don't weigh the ton that melamine does. Need to do up a DIY, but I'm lazy.

DIY projects for some reason always turn into a nightmare for me. I decided to save myself the frustration and got mine from Chesapeake bay ball pythons and I can say that I couldn't be happier they sell an excellent product
