    Uth

im trying not to ask allot of questions but i just got a UTH i dont have a rheo stat or anything, i put it under the tank and its been on for about 40 min, i have the sensor to the acu rite thermometer under the subtrate over the top of where the UTH is and i have the unit in the tank on the cold side and it reads 108 and slowly climbing, the cold side it holding at 74.6 humidity is 42. is the tank going to heat up over time cuz i touched him like 2 seconds ago and he felt like he was freezing although he did move to the warm side after i i touched him and the subtrate was nice and warm on the hot side. Is 110 dangerous for him? cuz im sure its going to hit that, maybe higher and thats the temp of the glass under the subtrate not inside the tank itself. i have a heat lamp for him with an infared bulb but i thought the UTH was good enough by itself, unless i have the thermometer set up wrong i think im gonna have to keep using the heat lamp

    Re: Uth

Yes 110 is very dangerous! Your snake will get burned at that high temperature. You need a thermostat to control that UTH.

If your romm temps are pretty stable, you could use a lamp dimmer from HD

UTH it to provide a hotspot, not heat the entire tank. some residual heat can & will " leak " over and assist with ambients, but do not count on it

    Re: Uth

People heat their room to 80ish to provide the ambient/air temp and then use a UTH to provide the hot spot temp. If your room is cold, you have several options:

    1. Turn up the house heat (if possible)
    2. Use a space heater (oil-filled radiant type is the safest, but use at your own risk) to raise the room temp.
    3. Some have had success using 2 UTHs, one on the hot side set to 90 and one on the cool side set to 80.

well im gonna need the heat lamp and the UTH than, but the heat lamp keeps killing the humidity, ive even misted the tank a couple times and it doesnt help is there anything i can do to get the humidity up besides putting the water bowl under the lamp cuz i already have that.
