Snake Rack and Rat Rack in the same room?

Yeah basically would this be ok to do? It would just be in a regular bedroom, could put them at separate sides. I just don't want to do it if it will constantly make my snakes think its feeding time with possibly constantly scenting them. Or if it would possibly make them aggressive.

I just built my first rat rack today and am super excited. I have 2 female and 2 male rats and noticed last night the female was so big and breathing heavy and today on my lunch saw a whole bunch of tiny red babies hah! First timer

Re: Snake Rack and Rat Rack in the same room?

mine are in separate rooms. but I do know a breeder who has a large room in the basement and has snakes and rodents that are kept in the same room. He produces hatchlings each year. so I know it can be done, not saying that it's the best way.

Re: Snake Rack and Rat Rack in the same room?

I had my snakes, rats and mice in my office for several months. i saw no change in feeding, had no issues with no wanting to eat or being aggressive.

However, i simple got to many mice and rats.. and they stunk horribly. Also had to get much bigger cages. I spend a lot of time in my office so... rats and mice are now in the basement.

Re: Snake Rack and Rat Rack in the same room?

I breed my rats in the same room that I keep my entire collection of 100+ snakes. I have done this for almost 8 years and produce healthy, happy babies every season. They eat wonderfully too...

I have done that for several years until very recently and never had any issue snakes were eating fine and they were not more aggressive either.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!! I know its not a requirement obviously but I know that prescenting your "snake room" with your rats that it is supposed to alert your snakes that a meal is coming. That would really be my only objection to doing it. I mean if this isn't the case then right on I think im going to move my snake rack upstairs.

Re: Snake Rack and Rat Rack in the same room?

If anything my snakes are eating better now being in the same room as the rats as they did when they were in separate parts of the house.

I've kept them in the same room before with no ill effects. They are in separate rooms now, but only because the cat gets locked in that room at night and I can really do without him terrorizing the rats all night LOL.
