I've got this kink in my tail....

I was just looking through kingsnake, and I saw an ad for some spiders who have kinked tails. The guy says this is related to a power outage 10 days before hatching.

I was wondering if kinked snakes have problems reproducing, and if its a trait they indeed do pass on to young? Does it cause other problems for the snake? Being that the guy is asking half as much for the kinked as opposed to the unkinked ones, I can't imagine its something all that good to have.

I don't plan on buying this snake (which, if it caused no problems I wish I was planning on buying it for so cheap), I was just wondering... sorry if this is a lame/dumb question!

I would have thought though that anything as structural as a kink in the spine would be established long before day 45 or so?

I've heard both - that it is passed on and it isn't. But from what I've read on here, they can still reproduce. What causes a kink? Is it an actual kink in the bones?

i *believe* if the kink is a result of incubation, then no, it wouldn't be passed on. however if it is a genetic thing, then surely it could be? wouldn't it be harder for the male snake to align himself properly when it comes time to "get it on?" (or are they like humans, doin' it anytime, anywhere, in any position?)

but of course there is never a 100% definitive answer when it comes to snakes and genetics, so i look forward to hearing from somebody who has more experience with this.

My spider has a kink but no others in the clutch had any so if that helps any lol here is a pic of him

I believe that kinking can be caused by incubation temps, but it can also be a genetic defect. IMO, any snake that has kinks should not be bred since it would be difficult to be 100% sure it wasn't genetic. There are plenty of Spiders out there...no need to breed kinked ones.
