How much should i feed my ball python?

I have a 5yr old male ball python, i adopted him about 6 months ago. He was raised on live so i feed him live mice, he wont touch frozen. I feed him 4 mice every 6-7 days. I was just wondering if that is enough for him or should i feed him more? i dont know his weight but he is about 4ft long and about 9'in thick at his fattest point. I tried rats, he wont go near them lol.

With my larger BP (1500 grams) I feed her a 150 gram rat every 2 weeks. I would think 4-5 mice a week would be ok for yours.

It seems okay to me. You could also try to pre-scent a rat with a mouse before trying to feed the rat. Mine converted straight from mice to rats easy. First time I tried feeding a rat to him he rejected it cause I spooked him and he decided not to eat it but the second time he took it no problem.

I have a couple of (live) mousers-only, and they typically eat 3-4 mice per feeding... they seem to be healthy and plump, so I would assume it's a good amount. How big are your feeder mice?

Re: How much should i feed my ball python?

they are a couple of inches, probably a full size adult mouse. i get them at petco. i may try a rat again but the rats they have are huge. i just wanted to make sure he isnt starving after 7 days. i was thinking about feeding him 4-5 mice every 14 days, you think thats to much time.

4 mice a week for a male is enough, I usually feed males 3 mice a week which is about 75/90 grams worth the prey.

As far as switching giving the age and assuming he has a good body weight and is healthy, it' might require tough love (no food until he accept f/t)

It might work, might take 6 months or more or it might never happen.

Either way remember switch one thing at the time.

Some are truly picky and will never touch a rat or a f/t, I have 2 like that.

Yea i tried the frozen a few times and i dont want to starve him out because he doesnt want to eat frozen. im always watching him when he eats until they die. I say a little Hail Mary for the mouse then its off to the green mile for them. i get females and pretend he's eating my EX's lol
