Re: Female Breeding size
Most start pairing females up at 1200-1500grams. IF they are ready to breed they will breed and lay eggs. If not then well you get nothing.

The rule of thumb is 1,500 grams they are ready to breed.

Re: Female Breeding size
Well the general consensus is 1,500g plus for a female to be of breeding weight and on their third season. Some will breed and produce eggs on their second season or at a smaller size. Its truly the owners decision but those are the general opinions. There is tons of info on this site about size and age vs. breeding.

If they seem thin I would put more weight on them before pairing them up (after a quarantine period). But if they eat well for you I don’t see why you can't start paring them up this fall/winter. Some times moving to a new home will mess up their breeding schedule though so don't be surprised if some don't go this year.

Re: Female Breeding size
I am only expecting the largest 2 to breed because they are the only ones that didnt seem scared to be handled in a new enviornment the others are kinda skiddish lol. Does anyone have a prime example of breeder females at there smallest and at there largest

Re: Female Breeding size
also, i read somewhere on this forum that people often sell females after they lay bc they sometimes stop eating.

Re: Female Breeding size
I've always heard min of 1500 grams (some may go at 1200) and at least their third winter.
