Talking I have achieved the impossible.

When I got my first snake, it was a baby corn snake, just about a month ago.
My mom is terrified of snakes, but she was ok with it because it was a baby, and not very large in size.
But, predictably enough, I was HOOKED on snakes, and went out and bought a ball python on a super sale at Petco.
...my mom was terrified of the thing, and wouldn't go anywhere near it. When we had him out to play with him, we had to cover his head when she walked by (his head freaked her out).
In fact, her first words when she saw Nergal was, "That thing is flipping scary!"
So, I went to NW seed and pet, a local pet store, and bought a small book on Ball pythons. I brought it home and left it in the bathroom by accident (I had been reading it while taking a bath).
This morning, my mom comes out of the bathroom and throws the book in front of me on the table, and she said--I kid you not!!--
"I like the stupid yellow ones. They're really cute."
    AAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe it! She loves the bees, just like me, and especially Yellowbellies, Mojaves, Lemonblasts, Albinos, anything with lots of yellow.
She even touched Nergal's head a few days ago.
    Unbelievable.
This might seem like no small feat, but you don't know my awesome mom. (:
(Next, I'm going to get her to join the BP.net forums )
She also said she hopes someday we could have baby killer bee BP's. YES!!!
    Best. Mom. Ever.
I freaking adore ball pythons. They are the best pet ever.

Re: I have achieved the impossible.

Congratulations. Some folks just need time and exposure to lose their fear...snakes have very 'alien' faces, and they look very strange to those who have never really looked at them before. Once they get used to the strangeness, they can make more sense of their features, and develop more empathy.

Re: I have achieved the impossible.

I agree. I'm just very happy she can now see how I think BP's are so cute.
It's something ABOUT their faces looking so "alien" that makes them cute, too.

Great news! Glad she is accepting your snake into her life. You never know, maybe she will take an active part in your ownership and maybe finance a few for you.

    Congrats!

I wish my parents would help me finance just 1 haha.

Very cool, that's always a good thing, I have to try really hard to get my mom to even touch Eva.

Congrats! My mom isn't afraid of Ramses, but she won't touch him. Well I asked her to touch him once and she just poked him. That doesn't count.

Luckily, my dad loves snakes almost as much as I do. He's perfectly okay with holding them while I clean tanks and whatnot.

Re: I have achieved the impossible.

That's an enourmous win for you in so many ways. Parents can seomtimes have a hard time adapting to new things, depending on the situation. I love that your mom was honsest about her fears, but decided on her own to learn more about your love of snakes.

She probably really enjoyed your enthusiam and that translated in her ability to not only respect them, but nurture a new admiration for them. Very nice story.

Re: I have achieved the impossible.

I'm so sorry, guys--I got a warning for putting the stars instead of the curse word.
I didn't know direct quotes would offend anybody, I was trying to display the emotion my mom felt.
I feel awful. I'm so sorry if I offended any viewers. I won't do that again in the future.
Again, my apologies, and thanks for reading the thread anyway.
My mom actually held Nergal today for the first time! It was amazing.
    Thanks a lot. :]

Re: I have achieved the impossible.

Glad to hear about your mom coming over her fears.

My mom loved snakes nearly as much as mine (in fact as a girl she once put 3 garter snakes in her mouth with their heads poking out, when her mom asked her what it was, she spit all three out at her, haha) but didnt want to end up caring for them if I got them, well after I moved out a BP was one of the first things I got. But we cant have moms awesome in all aspects and your mom's fear is a lot better than other problems people can have.
