2 day old is swimming?

This is wierd. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have mites. It's only his first day out of the incubator! I took him out of the water bowl and then he crawls right back in. Temps are good - he is on half of a 10gal tank. Moist paper towels, humidity at around 70. Stayed in the hide all day until now.

The only thing that I can think of is maybe the heat is too high?? That's the ONLY time I've seen my snakes soak - when normally, it's out of character.

It might be soaking because it'll have it's pre-shed soon.

Yep, a few of my hatchlings soaked before their first shed.

Also I keep hatchlings together till they shed cause they don't need a hide when they are together.. It's hide looks a little big for it..So the soaking thing might be a security need..

My main guess is security issue this is way oversized for an hathcling, do you have 6 quarts tub?

A small opaque enclosure would really be best for your hatchlings.

same here they share a tub until i get indival tubs/sheds all done . right now i got room in the rack but no tubs waiting on a grass check to ored tubs and heat for them(built a rack for possible future expansion and end up wit h12 eggs this year. But the lady this check ( big money lol) was hostipalized and jsut got out so waitingon her now. I can order the tubs and flex then it just a thermostat to get locally.

They really do need to be in 6quart tubs. I too keep them all together in a 6quart tub until they are all done their first shed. I believe that not only does it make them feel secure, but being so up close and personal with the siblings also helps the first shed come off easier.

Okay, I only have a 10gal UTH so it's kinda big for a 6qt I think. I can put them back in the egg tub (replacing the vermiculite with paper towels) but, dunno how to heat it...

I'll figure something out. He's either in the hide or in the water. The "bowl hide" is only halfway on the UTH. I split the tank 3-ways now because all 3 babies are out of the incubator.

I'll put them all together too. So, how do I know who shed?
