    Miracle clutch of 2010

    Here’s what happened:

I started pairing our Lesser male with our female Mojave on february 1st of 2010, everything was going great and as planned with the snakes locking twice in the month of february until I started noticing that the Mojave girl just wasn’t acting right. One of the biggest benefits of being a small breeder is that I get to check on all my snakes on a daily basis and actually get to know them so when something is off I can pretty much catch it right away. Once i saw that something was wrong I made a decision that was very very difficult for me to make at that time seeing that a blue eye lucy was a dream snake for me to make, yes I know I could just go and buy one but it was something that I really wanted to hatch out myself. Well i did the right thing an simply pulled her from the breeding cycle, brought her to the vet who confirmed that she had a upper respiratory infection and proceeded to treat her with baytril for about 30 days or so. This all happened at the beginning of march and the last time the two snakes locked up was on march 1st.
Well after spending the next few weeks in quarantine I noticed that she was doing much better and was confident that I could bring her back into the snake room without any risk to the other animals. Keep in mind that this snake had not had a meal since 2/17/2010.
After I brought her up to the snake room i tried to feed her and she refused and then she went into her shed cycle with her skin coming off on may 28th. At this point I’m thinking what the heck is going on here, she looks very big for a girl thats been starving herself for months and low and behold on june 4th she laid 6 perfectly good eggs for me. Yes, you read that right. A week after her shed she went ahead and laid eggs. I couldn’t be happier but even though she gave me eggs I was nervous that they would go bad or that something would be wrong with the babies because of the treatment she had gone thru . Here we are on July 28th and I am happy to tell you that out of the six eggs I got 1 normal, 2 mojaves and THREE BEL’s all in perfect health and doing great. I still can’t believe it, this is one of those things that makes this hobby so great for me. The feeling i got when those little guys came out of the egg is like nothing i can even describe for you here. I know they are just lucys to some but to me they are my miracle lucys and I just couldn’t be happier
