    Curious about possible morphs....

I am curious about the possible outcomes of breeding certain morphs...

    Pied x Albino
    Pied x Axanthic
    Pied x Fire
    Pied x Spider

Yeah Im a Pied freak, lol. But I dont know much about morph mixing and possible outcomes. Been talking to my wife and discussing the possability of breeding a couple Balls, not as a buisness but simply to make a collection thats more personal by breeding them ourselves, although selling a couple depends on how many we get out of the clutch.
This project is a 3 or 4 years away because I have alot fo studying to do on the subject and preparing a budget, and I only plan on getting one male and one female, one being a Pied for sure...just because I want one so bad. I just dont know what would be really cool to breed it with because I dont know what each would produce.
Those are my choices because of all my faves those are the ones I could afford.

    Re: Curious about possible morphs....

Pied x Albino: all double hets for Pied and Albino. Breed the offsrping back to each other for a 1/16 chance of producing an albino pied

Pied x Axanthic: same as above but axanthic instead of albino

Pied x Fire: All offsrping will be het pied; 50% will be normal looking hets, 50% will be fire hets. Breed fire hets to pied or het pied and you can produce fire pieds.

Pied x Spider: same as above but spider instead of fire.

    Re: Curious about possible morphs....

Oh my..those photos will make it nearly impossible to decide, those are all stunning combos!
Makes the choice tough since I am not doing it for profit, but to make my collection more personal...like producing and raising my own kids and watching them grow and develop. Once my son moves out in a few years though I may end up with a room just for my animals, will have to see what happens from there.

I really cant pick a fave from those photos, I just need to win the lottery, lol.

    Re: Curious about possible morphs....

The thing about pieds is that it takes so long to make a cross. Since no matter what you cross it to, you still only get hets. Which you then have to breed back to get visuals.

Unless of course you already have a visual pied or pied morph to breed to another visual, but considering how expensive a visual pied morph is.....

I myself am working on a pied morph collection, it's going to take a while, but to me it will be so worth it.

    Re: Curious about possible morphs....

To produce some of those morphs, i suggest either getting a double het pair, or a morph het pied or vice versa. Or something like spider het pied X pied pairing. Just a jump start on things. Breeding a pied to an albino will produce double hets but breeding double hets give you a very slim chance of producing the double morph. Ofcourse this is just a suggestion.

    Re: Curious about possible morphs....

Sweet, I love that gadget !

Looks like I will need to rethink my budget, but one will be a high white Pied ( I hope) since I have a thing for them. It will be a while before I do anything so I have time to think of what I will breed it to.
