Appropriate price for a het pied female?

I recently bought a het pied female, along with a normal female from a coworker. I think I may have under paid him and want to know what an appropriate going price is for a het pied female at about 400 grams.

Or maybe I over paid, I shot him a number and he went for it. If I underpaid significantly, I'm going to offer him the snake back so that he can find a buyer that would give him a more "market" price. If I overpaid - oh well, I didn't pay that much for her.

BTW, the snake doesn't have papers but this guy is very honest and he's friends with the breeder who bred him, who is a reputable guy. So in essence, I'm confident that the snake is het for pied, but it doesn't have papers.

I would keep her either way can always prove her out and offer him a cut of those profits. Cause sounds like friend was hurting for cash or had issues with caring for her. I not sure what hets are going for but I say if you got 2 snakes for about 200 or so you got a good deal specially if both are in the 400 gram range. anything else offer him more funds when you got them to spare and just say you found out that she was worth more and wanted to be fair.

This way your friend knows were they are if he wants to try and buy back later, and knows they getting proper care.

I'd say $400 is about market price right now for an 09 het female and a normal.

Around 2000 bucks, at least that's what I paid for mine...

I'm not sure, but I recently saw a few male PDH Pied/Clowns going for 250

    Thanks for all the replies.

I don't think he was necessarily hurting for cash. He's a high school zoology teacher, and these snakes were in his classroom. They were both set up in tanks perfectly and have been well cared for. He also has some leopard geckos, bearded dragons, a gorgeous boa and a breeding pair of cornsnakes, the male of which is the biggest corn I've ever seen. He knows herps, but he's not really into breeding.

From all of the posts here, it looks like I offered him WAY too little. Thanks for the input!

Re: Appropriate price for a het pied female?

You don't mention the percentage for het. If this is a 50% het I'd say you pay the price for a normal. If it's a 100% het for pied, I would probably offer somewhere around $250. I bought a 100% het for pied from 8 Ball for $400, but she was 800 grams and I KNOW it's 100% het.

No papers, means a LOT less money for the snake.

    Good Luck!

Re: Appropriate price for a het pied female?

It's 100% het. It seems I stole the snake, unwittingly. I'm going to offer it back to him, just to have a clear conscious.

And yeah, I understand that the value is significantly less without paperwork. He'd have to sell the snake to someone else who knew him, or knows the breeder to command a price like I've seen in this thread.

I bet he tells you to keep it! Maybe give him a little more cash, but I still think he's going to tell you to keep it. After all, unless it's bred, it's still just a normal looking ball python.

    Good Luck!
