Is there a limit/standard on pairing a small male with a big female?

I have a 700 gram bumble bee male (08) and a 3500 gram normal female I would like to pair up this winter. I am hoping my male will be closer to 800 grams by winter. Is this ok to breed them together?

She looks so massive compared to him......like she will just crush him. All my other girls will be around 1500-2100 grams, so I know he should be fine with them. Thanks for any advice and/or experiences.

Hes fine, just keep eye on his food intake and energy level. When they both go down hes done

Yes it is fine imo If you look in my images you can see my 1,000g male spider breeding a big 3,500 gram normal female. If your male is eating good he should put on more weight then 100 grams by winter too

Re: Is there a limit/standard on pairing a small male with a big female?

I bought him about a month ago and he is a live eater. I am trying to switch him but he's being stubborn about taking F/T. He hasn't eaten since I brought him home so its been just over a month. I may buy a live weaned or hopper rat to get him going and then try a F/T right after. I just said he would be 100 grams more on the light side, he should be pretty close to 900-1000 realistically. I wasn't concerned until I got the 3500 gram girl and was looking at them in comparison. Thanks for the replies.

You will have to slowly move him off live. Takes time and sometimes you have to give tough love. Offer live then pre killed. Once they eat pre killed good offer nothing else but f/t. I got some going on 2-3 months no food as they ate pk well but don't want frozen. Others took to this method very well and pound ft

I put a 600 gram male with a 3500 gram female once, and he did his duty just fine--all eggs hatched (huge clutch, too).
Don't worry about him, if she lies on him and he's uncomfortable, he'll squeeze his way out and move. lol

He will be fine! If you get him on prekilled then switching to frozen won't be a problem as long as you heat it up enough! I would feed him every 5 days starting beginning of October to put weight on him before breeding season because he will probaly go off feed during breeding!

Re: Is there a limit/standard on pairing a small male with a big female?

Thanks guys, that makes me feel a lot better. Since my largest girl (before buying my two new girls this weekend) was 1750 grams, I didn't think anything of it. After getting my new big girl, handling her and then handling my 700g male, I was thinking how in the world is he gonna get with her?

On another note, do you suggest I feed all of my new live feeders live this week and then the following week try F/K.....and then F/T? Or should I do live and a F/K right after in the same feeding? You can PM me if we are getting off subject here. Thanks!

I paired my 450-500g black pastel male with my 3000+gram female and he seems to have got the job done. I feel 8 eggs just waiting for them to drop.

Why give them two prey items? I would give them one prey item that is the size of their widest part and I would feed a couple timees with prekilled first before going to frozen!
