I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
Hi,
Since I am going to be leaving early tomorrow to go visit family I decided to cut my egg early ( day 54 instead of 55 ).
This is the clutch that I let get too wet and lost all but one egg so far to mold so I was really quite nervous about what could possibly be inside.
I started off planning to be cutting just a small flap to make sure anything inside had a way out but saw something wierd and ended up sunroofing the poor thing trying to work out what it was.
It's mold!!
The veins underneath it are empty of blood and look like white string so I guess it has grown up the inside of the egg from the patch at the bottom of the egg?
I tried to clear as much of it out as I could but I definately can't get it all.
The snake itself is still alive at this point as it moved when I prodded it ( sophisticated test or what ? ) and, although it doesn't seem to show on the pics I think it is a lesser. It may colour up into a normal or something later though.
I put a bowl of water in the eggbox and put the mesh lid on to prevent escape if it has left the egg by the time I get back.

Well I guess that's a lesson for all of us, a tough one too. I'm sorry about the clutch and good luck with that little guy.

Try flushing it out with some water. I usually keep a bottle of water in the incubator so it's the right temp. If that doesn't work very gently try taking a toothpick and removing the gunk.
