I need a cool spot

I am facing a dilemma and need some urgent advice.

I just moved to a new home, without A/C. We now have a swamp cooler in place, which keeps our indoor humidity at around 50% - 60% this time of year. Our indoor temp fluctuates between 75F at night to 85F-90F during the day.

This is where my problem lies, at these temps I must wonder if I am causing harm to my herps since my rack heat gradient stays at max 90F, but I must turn it off if my entire home stays around 85F - 90F.

I guess what I am trying to find out is how do I keep a cool spot at these temps? It seems to have gotten more difficult in maintaining my former temp gradient under an A/C home in the city but seem to find myself at odds trying to figure this out.

Any help, advice is appreciated. Thank you.

If you have a basement keep your herps there. It should be cooler. If you dont have a basement buy a small windo AC unit for a couple hundred bucks.

what darkice said. in my house growing up we had a swamp cooler and a window unit or is that the same thing? i dont remember my parents ever using any kind of central air unit so i dont think we had one. the window unit kept the house fairly decent in the summer & we had a pot bellied stove or something like that for the winters. my parents also had a wood burning fireplace which they almost never had to use. they ended up installing a gas burning fireplace inside of it & it looks cool but im not sure how much they actually use it.
anywayz, sorry for that trip down memory lane, lol.
if your new house has no central air i'd get a swamp cooler. they're nice.

Walmart has an upright room air conditioner that is like $60-. When I was in OH on vaca someone was using it in a shed and it worked great. However ...swamp coolers typically keep a house very cool as long as there is water available to it.

swamp coolers are terrible. a lot of people have them here in el paso and i cant stand them. too humid, and not cool enough. i just bought a window A/C for a lil over 100 bucks that works awesome from walmart. its good for saving energy, unlike the big one for my whole apartment.
