    Kitten & Cat HELP!!!

ok to keep a long story short we just bought a kitten that is 12 weeks old.
We currently have a 1-2 yr old cat that we rescued.
They are great together the big cat plays mom and licks the kitten and they run a muck at nite yada yada yada.
Problem is feeding I have kitten food for the kitten and cat food for the cat well the kitten eats the cat food and I think thats why he has diarrhea. We bought him on Sunday and his vet appt is fri but how do you control the food. The cat is a chubby girl I think she eats too much. Please help me out because our apartment consistently smells like the inside of a toilet lol

    Re: Kitten & Cat HELP!!!

Set a very specific feeding schedule and feed each cat in a separate room. They don't have to have food left out all day for them. Decide how much each cat needs at a serving (breakfast and dinner) and what time of day you can consistently offer both. Put each cat in its space with its dish of food...give them 20 minutes to finish...and then take up whatever is left. Don't give them anything else to eat until their next feeding time. If they're used to having food left out all the time, they may not eat a whole serving at once...but after just a couple times of having it taken away, they'll get the message and eat quickly.

    Re: Kitten & Cat HELP!!!

This may not be helpful. But we always just fed our kittens cat food in a group setting even if we did start them out away from what we like to call the pride. Occassional diahrea but not constant. I'd ask the vet about the diahrea.

    Re: Kitten & Cat HELP!!!

im with jlc on the feeding in seperate rooms on a time schedule.
ive always fed my kittens soaked kitten food at first and then just regular kitten chow when their teeth were strong enough.
about the litterbox, if you diligently keep it clean the apartment wont smell bad, also use a specially strong odor absorbing litter not the cheap stuff that "claims" to be odor absorbing. i always used something with arm & hammer baking soda for example. that stuff was great!
