    Cage Set-Up?

I was holding my snake, and I added a new hide, so I decided to re-arrange it a bit.

Anyways, I'll start from the right side of the 55 gallon aquarium:

On the farthest side of the (right) aquarium, there is a small-medium fake plant. Then there is a hide (warm), then a log, then another cool hide. There is a stone alligator tail on it to help with shedding (which he is going through now). On the left side is a fairly large water bowl.

Is this okay for him? I changed it a lot so everything fit. How badly would this stress him out? I don't think it will too much because he has more places to hide and sit around He's checking everything out now. I just want to make sure he'll be okay with the change, and will he still eat for me, or should I put it back the way it was? he seems to like to explore it a lot, though.

    Hi,

It depends entirely on the snake.

Some will need to go through the whole settling in process again and some will be fine.

    Re: Cage Set-Up?

i dont think this should stress your snake out a bit he should just explore it for a while and then get settled in again, assuming all of your temperature settings are all the same. id try to feed dont see why he wouldn't eat. i clean and move around stuff just about every feeding day to ensure nobody gets nasty stuff on them when they are eating and to give fresh water for a after dinner drink. hope this helps you out.

    Update:

He was in his cardboard box, peeking out at everything. I think he seemed to like it I covered half of the cage with a sheet to make it more secure. I checked on him a few minutes ago, he's in his warm hide I don't tink he's stressed at all.

    Thanks everyone!

    Re: Cage Set-Up?

What I have found is that re-arranging stuff isn't a problem but replacing things is a bit more of an issue. Don't change two hides at once, just do one one week and the other the next for example. I add and subtract things every now and again just don't take out all kinds of stuff and add all new stuff one bit at a time.

    Re: Cage Set-Up?

He has everything he had previously, except for a fake plant and a new hide (which he seems to like!). I did remove a long climbing stick, because he is a very clumsy little snake, and I don't want him to get hurt.

He's in his hide now, and we will try feeding him two to three frozen adult mice July 1st, and hopefully he takes! His appetite the last few days has been ravenous... So I think he will take, especially since he has a few more days to get settled in.

    Re: Cage Set-Up?

from what i know & the ball python care sheet here, that 55 gallon aquarium is not a good cage for your bp.
    i have a 30" x 12" x 12" that i will be using but will move up to a
    36" x 19" x 18" later.
also aquariums dont typically make good cages for reptiles cuz theyre designed for fish.

i have 2 hides, one on the warm side & 1 on the cool side, so my snake will be able to thermoregulate (go from 1 side to the other to warm up/cool off).
i also have 2 water dishes, 1 on the warm side to hopefully create humidity & 1 on the cool side for drinking.
if you wanna get a smaller terrarium for your bp look at npicages.com.
im gonna get the 36" cage. it's a little over $100 bucks ea. but i think its a good buy.

    my current collection
    1.2 kiddos
    1.0 better half
    0.1 mojave ball python (Nyx)
    0.1 Dumerils Boa (Hemera)
    1.0 Eastern Box turtle
3.4.? rats (? = litter coming any day now)
    0.1 dutch rabbit (Lucy)

Nah, his cage is fine. It's not too big, and he has plenty of places to hide. I switched it up to a hide on both ends, and the water bowl is in the middle. He is in his warm cage right now.

I (and I assume the snake) are perfectly happy with the 55 gallon And I am pretty sure he'll eat July 1st, too
