    Turning the AC Off...

So...as the title suggests, I will be heading home from tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, until Monday afternoon. All the other roommates are also out of town, so they told me to turn the A/C off...

I have Wyatt in a rack, with temps at the proper 90/80 temps and 50-60 humidity...with the A/C on...

So my question is, do I turn down the power going into the rack flexwatt because the house will be warmer? It will be average summertime temps here in Gainesville, FL, and my room gets decent light despite the shades, and can get pretty warm even with the A/C on...so...

What would you do?! I have an overhead fan, so even if I turn the air off I could have that on high...Help!

    Re: Turning the AC Off...

    Well...you use a thermostat.

I'd tell my roommates to stuff it, I've got live animals that depend on that air conditioning. Maybe pay a little extra for the electric bill in return. Like that 3 days worth.

I'm assuming you're using a dimmer, and this is exactly why everyone says they're not good enough.

However, I just heard of this and am passing that link around like the ****ens! Cheapest digital I've heard of. Same cost as the Reptitemp. Easier to work with if nothing else. (If you're in that market.)

Edit: As soon as I post, I reread and realize a thermostat may not make a difference because the house could get too hot either way. They can stuff it. There's still a live animal in there.

For what its worth, I'd leave it on.
Maybe change it so it turns on at a higher temp, but just think how unbearably hot it wil be when you get back at the end of the weekend if you leave it off. The animals wouldn't be happy either.

Somethin' like that. I just heard of it from Koarte in a very recent thermostat thread. Just a few weeks ago she and everyone else were recommending the Reptitemp, so...

    Re: Turning the AC Off...

Yeah another member bought one a little while ago and tested it and said it was pretty good at holding temps. I would say it is definitely a step up from the reptitemp because it is digital and programmable. Plus it is pretty cheap and readily available on amazon.

Just leave your AC on. If you are like any other person with roommates you all split the electricity bill equally so just pick in a few extra bucks. Its not that big of a deal :/

    Re: Turning the AC Off...

Just set the a/c thermostat to 80-82*, lower your hotspot temps to 90, and all will be well.

    Re: Turning the AC Off...

Summer time my snake room reaches 88-90 with air off. When its that hot i turn off all flexwatt for the day.

For you keep it set at 88-90 so if it reaches those temps it wont over heat any further.
