Re: So SB 318 passed? :(

There was ALREADY a permit system in place before the ban. With the ban, no NEW ROC will be bought, sold, etc in Florida, although all LEGAL owners(who would ALREADY have had that permit to own the ROD they have) can keep their animals for the rest of it's life.

According to the way it's worded, if I rem exactly.. you can own the ROC if you have the permit, for the rest of that snake's(or nile monitor) life. You may not breed, sell, buy, or import any other ROC. So technically I guess you can't even sell off ROC you own, if you have them in the state?

It's a huge pain, especially since people don't know about the permit in the first place(although they have no excuse, most pet stores and such have notices about the ROC permits needed) and certainly won't know about the currant bill which makes the whole ROC stuff they just passed a year or so ago nearly completely moot.

    Stupid state PR.

Well, as far as I'm aware the bill is strictly for Florida.

So as of right now I don't need a permit for my Yellow Anaconda.

I think just the opposite. Sen Nelson is from Florida. Sen Nelson and HSUS will call this a victory and use it as a precedence for the national ban. I wonder if HSUS will be making a donation to the governors campaign fund...

Duhhhh, is that even in question?

And quite frankly I think we CAN use this to our advantage. The so called 'problem' revolves around 3 counties in Florida. Although I personally think it's overkill, Florida passed a bill taking care of 'THEIR' problem. That SHOULD be the end of the story...

Unfortunatly I agree that it probably won't be, but I hope that the reptile nation at least uses the passage of this bill to our advantage.

I kind of believe that certain reptile stores that sell some of the reptiles listed don't know the bill passed, therefore selling the reptiles to customers.

I think that this definitely will fan the flame for them wanting to pass the federal/national ban. It'll be like "one down, a couple to go" kind of thing.

Wyoming still has the best laws for reptile owners. The only thing you can't have is a black mamba.
