    Feeding BPs Birds?

Well, the other day my brothers girlfriend offered me baby finches to feed my BP because her birds keep laying eggs and having babies. At first i thought the idea was completey ridiculous. I did some research and found that BPs can eat a lot of things that aren't rodents, birds being one of those things. I saw a few videos on youtube of people feeding their BPs birds, so i guess my question is, Is this safe? Do birds provide similar nutrion as mice? Do any of you have experience feeding with birds?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I think the biggest risk you might run is the snake getting imprinted on them and not eating anything else. So before offering anything like that you have to make sure you will have a steady supply in case your snake decides it only wants that particular prey item...

Personally I wouldn't. I'm sure it's fine, but birds have some pretty sharp parts (beak, claws), and I'd not want to risk injury.
In the wild they may do it, but they also die far more often.

    Food for thought.

Considering how much they seem to like chicken, birds are probably like crack to them...

I think along the same lines of Vincze whenever I see this question. So much sharp stuff...

My BPS would not even look at a bird, let alone eat one

Honestly unless you have enough to keep feeding him should he get imprinted, I wouldnt.

    Re: Feeding BPs Birds?

    Hi,

    Some do.

I have a female that would crawl over a mountain of rats and mice to get to an F/T day old chick.

But you can buy those easily enough to have a constant supply.

The problem is people have long reported runny, smelly poo's when feeding only chicks. I have fed them as occasional treats ( mainly to the above snake ) but wouldn't be comfortable offering them as a major part of the diet.

It's where the feeding tip of dipping in chicken broth comes from I suspect - though I'd have thought dipping in egg yolk or simply rubbing with a chick would have been less expensive and all around easier.
