display tank? i am shocked ? Does anyone know other diff species that are kept together liked this? what prevents the green tree python from eating the frog?

That's definitely not right, especially since they are a separate animal group, one being amphibian as the other is reptile.

If I were there, I would have said something about it, but that's just me. I'm more of a picky person about that kind of stuff

its at the sacramento zoo and the frog and snake are sitting side by side the frog is like the size of the snakes head its shocking to see

Most zoo's house animals that are from the same habitat in the same enclosure. I assure you that tons of research and many herpotologist were consulted before any decisions are ever made. Every animal in a zoo is an investment in the future of a species and they are not disposable so, I highly doubt that the frog is any danger from the python.

Zoos try to mimmick what the wild is actually like. Not really a big deal if you ask me.

People do all the time with frogs (especially poison dart frogs) and day geckos. Snakes are solitary animals that don’t like sharing territory with another snake that’s why there was only one python. Once again zoo animals are too valuable to make mistakes with and a lot of research goes into their husbandry. Zoo habitats are becoming more naturalistic and expansive so they can have a small ecosystem in one enclosure that a normal middle class person could never afford, or have the space for.

I guarantee that the retic in that zoo was housed alone and there was not more than one snake per enclosure, on another note there are no zoonotic diseases that pass from amphibian to reptile.

I'm pretty sure they live in the wild like that... and reptiles don't eat amphibians as far as I'm concerned.
Just the same as they're not provided heating pads, fresh water on the daily and pre-killed or frozen rats that are bred in regulated facilities...

I meant, come on now... really, is it THAT surprising?

actually many reptiles specialize in eating amphibians
