Were should I put the prove

I have a makeshift incubator out of a thick foam cooler and flex watt on the bottom that comes up the sides and water bottles on top of that I have the egg box, were should I put the herpestad prove in the egg box, or on the inside of the cooler?

Here come I with pure speculation...

I'd guess directly on your heat source. The concern in the usual setup for a snake is that the snake will do something to make the thermostat think it needs to run the heat source way more than it actually has to. In an incubator, that isn't a concern, so I'm thinking it may be safe to put it in the egg box. However, when the eggs do hatch, that immediately becomes a concern, so it's probably safer to put it directly on the heat source and use a thermometer or temp gun on the target area.

The probe in my inc is taped under the flexwatt directly against it.

Re: Were should I put the prove

I put it right on top of the eggs in the egg box. I don't care what the temps are on the heat source I want to know what temps the eggs are. Of course in a large incubator with several egg boxes it's a little different. My setup was a little different. I had water in my cooler with a aquarium heater heating the water as a heat source.

Re: Were should I put the prove

I agree with Zues, I want to know the temp of my incubator, not my heat source. But if your egg tub touches the flexwatt directly or through water bottles I would be much more cautious. My incubator is in the freezer part of a fridge and the probe in hanging in the center of the freezer. My flexwatt does not touch the egg tub in any way. I didn't put the probe in the egg tub because the temps really aren't going to differ much, if at all, as long the temp in the fridge stays at 89.

Re: Were should I put the prove

Our coke cooler inc is 35 high 21 wide and 19 deep
We have 30 inches of flexwatt on the back wall with the herpstat probe placed behind the flexwatt and a fan on the floor of the inc to push air around.
We only care about the temp inside the tub since the air inside the inc isn't always the same as it is inside the tub, at least in testing it they never were exactly the same.
We use two thermometers with probes, one probe inside a tub on the top shelf and one inside a tub on the bottom shelf and double check things with a temp gun.

There are several ways to place the probe in an incubator, this one has worked great for us.

Re: Were should I put the prove

Thanks to all who have answer, it's my first clutch ever so I'm all worried, temp is holding at 88.2 in the box doble checked with a termostat prove along with a hygrometer prove and then I take the temp gun they are all in the 88 range with humidity 90-95, would you say that works?
