what are the chances of getting a paradox?

So far as anyone knows or can prove, Paradoxes are completely random. No one can predict them, and they cannot be bred for. I would imagine many people have tried by crossing paradoxes, I know I asked once if it improved the odds of getting a paradox, and no one has managed to do it.

They are beautiful in my eyes, especially the heavy paradoxes, but they are just one more of life's little mysteries that make owning and breeding BP's fun.

I don't know what the chances are exactly but I do know it is not a good chance.

It's not something that can be traced, it depends on the alleles and if they become mutated somehow.

I've produced 30 odd albinos in 10 years and one paradox albino.
So 3.33%.

well.. yes... but i was thanking like, for exampel the chances of albino breeding normal to normal your chances are (I think) 1 in 17,000 or something like that (At least thats in humans)

They do seem to happen more than you would expect but I think still rare and unpredictable.

Per the theory that they are chimeras they could then only occur in clutches that would have mixed morph types. For example a clutch that could produce both albinos and non albinos (hets or normals). If both parents where albinos and two of the eggs merged to make a chimera it would still be all albino looking and not be recognized. You need different morph offspring to merge to see the paradox effect.

Your best chance is too keep your eyes open and purchase one when it becomes available. The small premium is worth it (in my opinion) if you really want one. This girl was produced by Josh Marki and he called me since he knows I like unusual animals. I paid a but extra but I figured I can always use an extra albino female, and she is fun to look at every time I open her bin. The photo was taken by Josh as well but she now resides here...

exactly. Going a little further along with this theory, I'd have to assume that any "visual" looking animals (ie, albinos or leucies, etc) are actually heterozygous and not homozygous thought the animal. I believe i heard of one instance where a visual looking paradox did not produce all visual offspring when bred to another visual and it was assumed that his reproductive organs and sperm were that of the "normal" rather than that of the visual.

its a interesting topic, i wish there was more research done on it and more information out there.
