    cheap rheastat

I went to home depot to get the materials to make a couple of rheastats for the uth and the lamp and I found a plug in rheastat for table lamps for 9.00, thought that was cheap considering they wanted 49.00 at petsmart for almost the same thing. Just thought Id pass the word. It seems to be working, the uth went up to 99.7 and I thought that was way to high for belly heat so now its down to 92. I feel alot better being able to control it.

Most people know about the piggy back dimmers at home depot.

A dimmer works for a lamp, but I would go with a thermostat for the UTH.

The light dimmer rheostat will do fine until you can get a thermostat i.e helix / johnson / ranco. Also with the rheostat you have to monitor temps closely to prevent injury to your pet.

what should the temps be for the uth, I have the probe right on it on the glass side of it of course. Its right at 90 now and its right under his hide, hes been coming out hanging by the water bowl alot more the past couple of days and he just ate yesterday. I noticed a little pink down by his vent area, cant tell if its a little blood maybe from the rat or if its just pink, its a small area about 1/2 inch long

The temp right on the glass under the substrate should not exceed 95*. I shoot for about 92*.

A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

Agreed, repti-temps are better than using a rheostat any day, especially if your room temperature varies much.
